FAQs

What is dry eye?
Dry eye occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. It can cause burning, grittiness, redness, light sensitivity, and blurred or fluctuating vision.

What are common causes?
Aging, screen use, contact lenses, dry or air-conditioned environments, certain medications, and eyelid or gland problems (e.g. meibomian gland dysfunction) can contribute.

How is it treated?
Options include preservative-free artificial tears, eyelid cleansers, warm compresses, omega-3 supplements, and prescription drops. Your eye doctor can recommend a plan based on your symptoms and exam.

When should I see a doctor?
See an eyecare professional if symptoms persist, worsen, or if over-the-counter options don’t help. Seek prompt care for severe pain, injury, or sudden vision changes.
