Treatment Guide

Dry eye can be aqueous deficient (not enough tears), evaporative (tears evaporate too quickly, often due to meibomian gland dysfunction), or a mix of both. Symptoms commonly include burning, grittiness, redness, light sensitivity, and blurred or fluctuating vision.

First-line steps: Preservative-free artificial tears, warm compresses, eyelid hygiene, and omega-3 supplements. Avoid dry drafts and take screen breaks.

If symptoms persist: Your doctor may suggest prescription anti-inflammatory drops (e.g. cyclosporine or lifitegrast), punctal plugs, or in-office treatments such as intense pulsed light or gland expression. A proper exam helps identify the cause and the best plan for you.
